DVDStyler is a free, open-source DVD authoring program (GPLv2). The official Mac download is the stable 3.2.1 release below, hosted on SourceForge. Please read the honest platform notes before you install: this is an Intel-era build, and there are a couple of known quirks on modern macOS that are better to know about up front. Honest notes before you install

  • Intel build, no native Apple Silicon version. The official Mac build dates from the Intel era (the _1 disk image is a 2023 repackaging of 3.2.1). On Apple Silicon Macs it runs through Apple’s Rosetta 2 translation layer — it works, but it is not a native or Universal app.
  • There is no Mac build of the 3.3 Beta’s latest version. 3.3b4 is Windows-only; Mac users stay on the 3.2.1 line.
  • Known issue on Monterey: users on the SourceForge forum have reported that menu buttons can fail to work in 3.2.1 under macOS Monterey, and the workaround they used was keeping an older 3.1 install alongside. See the Mac guide for details before you rely on a menu-heavy project.

Getting past Gatekeeper

Because DVDStyler is distributed outside the Mac App Store, macOS Gatekeeper may block the first launch. The standard steps:

  1. Open the downloaded .dmg and drag DVDStyler into your Applications folder.
  2. Try to open DVDStyler once. If macOS says it cannot be opened or verified, close the dialog.
  3. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to the Security section, and click Open Anyway next to the DVDStyler message. Alternatively, right-click (Control-click) the app in Applications and choose Open, then confirm.
  4. Before overriding any warning, verify the file: the MD5 and SHA-256 checksums above must match the official SourceForge values listed here. If they do not match, delete the file and download again from the button on this page.

If you need a modern native Mac alternative

DVDStyler costs nothing and still authors DVDs on a Mac, but its Mac build is old.
