DVDStyler on Windows 11

DVDStyler works on Windows 11. The current stable release, version 3.2.1 (released November 2, 2021), ships a native 64-bit Windows installer that runs on Windows 11 as well as Windows 10, and the newer 3.3b4 build is also Windows 11 compatible. There is no separate “Windows 11 edition” — you simply download the regular win64 installer from the official SourceForge files.

This guide covers which file to get, how to install it on Windows 11, what to do when SmartScreen appears, and the few practical notes Windows 11 users ask about most. For the full download overview, see our main download page or the Windows download page.

Which version should Windows 11 users install?

For almost everyone, the answer is the stable 3.2.1 win64 build. It is the release the project lists as stable, it is a native 64-bit program, and it matches the checksums published on SourceForge: file DVDStyler-3.2.1-win64.exe, 34,808,333 bytes, MD5 27d5327d52afdc7ca3b8875c3f3bbced.

A newer development build, 3.3b4, also runs on Windows 11, but it is a Beta: it is still in testing, it is only available for 64-bit Windows, and SourceForge highlighting it as the default download does not make it the stable release. Our 3.2.1 vs 3.3b4 comparison explains who should consider the Beta and who should stay on the stable build.

How to install DVDStyler on Windows 11

  • Download the win64 installer using the button above. The file comes from the official DVDStyler files on SourceForge.
  • Optional but recommended: verify the file. Compare its MD5 checksum with 27d5327d52afdc7ca3b8875c3f3bbced so you know the download is complete and untampered.
  • Double-click DVDStyler-3.2.1-win64.exe and follow the installer steps (language, install location, shortcuts).
  • If Windows shows a SmartScreen prompt, follow the section below instead of cancelling.
  • Launch DVDStyler from the Start menu and create a new project. No account, license key or activation is needed — DVDStyler is free software under the GPLv2 license.

“Windows protected your PC” — the SmartScreen prompt

Windows 11 may show a blue SmartScreen message saying “Windows protected your PC” when you run the installer. This is standard Windows behaviour for less frequently downloaded open-source installers; it is not, by itself, a sign that the file is harmful. What matters is where the file came from and whether it checks out.

  • Only continue if you downloaded the installer through the official SourceForge channel linked from this site.
  • Check the MD5 checksum against the value above. If it matches exactly, you have the same file the project published.
  • On the SmartScreen prompt, click More info, then Run anyway, and continue the installation.
  • If the checksum does not match, delete the file and download it again — do not override the warning for a file you cannot verify.

Our Is DVDStyler safe? page explains the project’s history and the checksum method in more detail.

Practical notes for Windows 11 users

  • 64-bit is the right build. Every Windows 11 PC in normal use is 64-bit, so use the win64 installer. The 32-bit build only matters for old Windows 10 machines — see our Windows 10 guide.
  • You still need a DVD burner. Most modern Windows 11 laptops ship without an optical drive. DVDStyler can author a project and output an ISO image without one, but burning a physical disc requires an internal or external USB DVD burner, plus blank DVD-R or DVD+R media.
  • DVD, not Blu-ray. DVDStyler authors DVD-Video only; it does not create Blu-ray discs. High-definition footage is converted down to standard-definition DVD format during authoring.
  • Your video files are converted automatically. DVDStyler accepts AVI, MOV, MP4, MPEG, OGG and WMV input and converts non-compliant files to DVD format as part of the authoring process.

Windows 11 vs Windows 10: any difference?

In practice, no. The same 3.2.1 installers serve both systems, the interface and features are identical, and a project created on one system opens on the other. If you are still on Windows 10, follow our DVDStyler on Windows 10 guide — the only real decision there is 64-bit versus 32-bit hardware.
